Obituary for Gloria Liette de Larrinaga (Larue)

Gloria Liette de Larrinaga (Larue)
Larue de Larrinaga, Gloria Liette
October 5, 1942 – September 30, 2014
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria Larue de Larrinaga. Gloria passed peacefully with her family at her side on September 30th, 2014 at the General Hospital at the age of 71. Predeceased by her brother Jacques, Gloria will be forever missed by her husband of 51 years José, her son Miguel, her daughter in law Stephanie (Byrne), her grandchildren Felipe, Kulani and Pablo, and her brothers and sisters Mario, Dorothy, Sandra, Stéphane, Marina and Frédéric, their families, and countless others who she touched throughout her wonderful life. Born in Virginiatown, Ontario to Armand and Jacqueline Larue, Gloria was the eldest of eight children who grew up in northern Québec on a piece of land that they bought and upon which they built a hunting and fishing lodge. This both instilled in her a love of nature and of hard work. She left the North to pursue her studies at the collège Bruyère and received a B.A. in philosophy and letters from the University of Ottawa. She applied for a summer job at the Spanish Embassy because of her gift for languages, being fully trilingual at a young age. That summer job ended up lasting 47 years as a translator and introduced her to the person who would become her husband and who she would spend the rest of her life with. Gloria was an avid volunteer and contributed her skills as a organizer and fundraiser to the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association. She spent her later years pursuing her joint passion with her husband for gardening and enjoying their grandchildren. She was a force to be reckoned with and she will be greatly missed. We thank her for everything she gave to all of us. Thank you, merci, gracias Bita! The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at the General Hospital ICU for their incredible kindness, skill and care. Family and friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O’Connor) on Friday October 3rd from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Parish, 194 Fourth Avenue, at 11am on Saturday October 4th. In remembrance, the family would sincerely appreciate contributions to the Canadian Liver Foundation.
