Obituary for Velma Irene Box (Reddick)

Velma Irene Box (Reddick)
Peacefully, at Arnprior Hospital after a short illness. Predeceased by her husband Stacey Box and longtime friend Don Doxsee. Survived by nephews and nieces David Reddick, Campbellcroft, Carrie Reddick, Coburg, Donna and Claude Lavergne, Osgoode, Bob and Claire Box , White Lake and special friends Brian and Pat Doxsee, Stittsville, Donna Dick and Bill Muir, Almonte, Sue and Clark Jenkins, Atkinson New Hampshire and Carol and Bruce Jenkins, Rochester N.Y. Aunt Velma was a grand lady- she started her career as a schoolteacher and then worked in the Public Service for 23 years retiring in 1975. In 1967, on the occasion of the 100 anniversary of the confederation of Canada, she was confirred the Centennial Medal in recognition of valuable service to the nation by R.P. Rothchild, Major General Commander, Material Command. She took pride in her rock garden at White Lake working diligently from spring to fall. Until age 80 travelling was always on her agenda. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo and the slots. What she enjoyed the most was touring the lake on the pontoon boat which she did on her 99th birthday. Special thanks to Dr. Susanna McCarthy and the staff of the Arnprior Hospiltal who gave her tender care. Friends are invited to visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry 150 Woodroffe Ave. at Richmond Rd Thursday, October 23, 2014 after 10 am until time of Service in the Chapel at 11 am. Donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
