Dorothy passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 22, 2015, followed 3 days later on February 25 by her beloved husband John (Jack). They will be dearly missed by their children David (Mariette), Janet (David Snell) and Alison (Clint Banbury), their grandchildren Sean, Jamie, Lindsay, Jonathan and Trevor, their great-grandchildren Lauren, Maya, Camden and Kennedy. Jack is survived by his brother Dr. Norman Urie (Colleen) and Dorothy, by her sister Peggy Kottmeier. After serving overseas with the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa in WWII, Jack practiced law in Ottawa for the next 25 years principally as a founding partner in the firm of Burke-Robertson, Urie, Butler and Chadwick. In 1973, he was appointed a Justice of the Federal Court of Appeal. Following his retirement in 1990, he acted as Counsel to the firm of Borden, Ladner, Gervais. Outside his professional career, Jack was a member of The Rideau Club, Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club and active in many community associations and was recently awarded the French Legion of Honour. Dorothy was a steadfast partner, raising their children and volunteering in the community. She and Jack were married for 68 years, were proud of, and greatly enjoyed their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their respective successes, as well as their extensive travel together. Family and friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O’Connor) on Wednesday, March 25 from 5-8pm. A Memorial Service to celebrate their lives and love for each other will be held in the Chapel on Thursday at 1pm.
