Bethany Rochelle  Tory (Hedley)
We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Bethany Tory on 21 April 2015 at Queensway Carleton Hospital in her 45th year. She is survived by her husband Graham and her sons, Alexander and Zachary, her parents Douglas and Lois (nee Perdew) Hedley, her sister Jillian Hately (Andrew) of San Jose, California, and her brother Mark (Ashley nee Ratchford) of Goodyear, Arizona, as well as her nieces Kaitlyn Hately and Sterling McCallum, and her nephews Mason Hately, Wyatt and Grayson Hedley, and Douglas and Andrew Ellaschuk. She is also survived by her in-laws Gary and Veronica Tory of Victoria, B.C., and her sisters-in-law Heather Romano, Nicole McCallum and Denise Tory. She will be deeply missed by her families in Canada and the USA. Bethany was born in Ibadan, Nigeria in 1970, and lived with her parents in Ottawa, Ibadan in Nigeria, Yogyakarta and Jakarta, Indonesia before she married Graham in 2005.
Bethany stayed in touch with many friends, and her classmates at Jakarta International School, Carleton University and her Executive MBA class at Queens University. Bethany was the Chief Operating Officer for Skate Canada in Ottawa. She was an outstanding executive in finance, budgeting, human resources and IT management. She worked previously at Scouts Canada, Canadian Research Knowledge Network, and with Dr. Len Chumak, Orthodontist. As a youngster and a teen, she was a competitive figure skater with the Nepean Skating Club and also taught figure skating, and particularly loved working with the tots. She served on the Board of the Elizabeth Fry Society of Ottawa as Finance Chair, as well as Chair of the Board for some years. She was a Beaver Scout Leader for the 23rd Nepean Group, Dinosaur Beaver Colony, and a member of the Group Committee for the 23rd. She volunteered with New Beginnings Pet Rescue for the last few years, taking in foster dogs as necessary and transporting dogs in Eastern Ontario and New York State.
Arrangements have been made through Hulse, Playfair & McGarry Funeral Home (West Chapel) at 150 Woodroffe Avenue, Ottawa. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, 25 April 2015 at 1:00pm at the Cedarview Alliance Church, 2784 Cedarview Road, Nepean, with Reverend Drew Maxwell officiating. A reception and visitation with the family at the church will follow, between 1:30 and 4:30pm. Bethany will be cremated, with interment at a later date.
