Obituary for Donald Thornton Chadwick

Peacefully at home on Sunday, June 28th at the age of 78. Beloved husband of 56 years to Beryl (born Hardman). Loving father to Neil (Sylvie), Colin (deceased) and Keith. Cherished Granddad to Steven, Emma, Colyn and Ashton. Fondly remembered by brother in-law and sister in-law, Alan and Valerie Cooper, nephews Ian, Andrew, and niece Lynn.

Don (Donald) was born in 1936 in Liverpool, England.

Don and Beryl were married in 1959. He and his family moved to Canada in 1968 but England would always be home. In 1977, his mother and father joined them where they spent time with their only son and grandchildren.

Following his mechanical engineer apprenticeship, Don proudly completed his national service. He later worked with English Electric and the University of Liverpool. Don worked with Bell Northern Research for 30 years until his retirement in 1998.

Don loved to share his interests in particular World War 2. He was an avid fan of soccer and followed Everton all his life. He enjoyed sailing at the Nepean Sailing Club and vacations in the British Virgin Islands. Don was a handy man and at a drop of a hat would come to the rescue of his children to fix whatever they needed. In his retirement, he took up woodworking and made a number of pieces of furniture which adorn many of our homes.

Don was a confidante to many and always generous with his time. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre Foundation.
