Obituary for Mary Margaret Evelyn St. Louis (Bloom)

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26

Nearing 89 years, Evelyn St. Louis (nee Bloom) died peacefully and with thankfulness in the company of all of her “chicks”, on Thursday, August 27, 2015, at the Elisabeth Bruyere Palliative Care Unit, Ottawa. She was predeceased by her loving husband of over 65 years, Charles St. Louis, her parents Bill and Violet Bloom and sister Audrey. In addition to working many years at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, she continued after retirement as a volunteer, resulting in over 40 years of dedicated service. Mom, Nanny,Big Nanny, Evelyn, will be forever endearingly remembered by her children, Dennis (Donna), Donalee (Gino), Murray (Elaine), Deborah (Maurice), Michael (Kim); her grandchildren, Patrick, Katie (Josh), Jennifer (Larry), Errin (Sarah), Samuel (Amanda), Benjamin, Leah (Mikhail), Excedera (Colleen), Josh (Evelyn), Kaitlin; and her great-grandchildren, Meagan, Emily, Nicholas; Rose, Emi, Talya; Declan (and his baby brother on the way); and Avery; together with her two sisters, Doris Costantini and Marlene Casey (Michael), niece Trina Costantini-Powell (John, and great-niece Rebecca) and nephew Anthony Costantini. As a life-long faithful servant of St. Anthony’s Parish, the two great loves of her life were her family and her beloved Irish heritage. From that heritage, she always exhibited strength, determination, and the ability to laugh in all of life’s circumstances. “…..And, until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand…..”

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Sinclair and the nursing staff at the Civic Hospital, together with the compassionate caring staff at Elisabeth Bruyere. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O’Connor) on Tuesday, September 1st from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, 427 Booth Street (at Gladstone) on Wednesday, September 2nd at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute or Elisabeth Bruyere Foundation would be appreciated.

MOTHER MAY I

Mother May I, have love and support?
Mother says yes, as her retort.

Mother May I, have friendship and backing?
Mother says yes, is that all you're asking.

Mother May I, have food and drink?
Mother says yes, what do you think?

Mother May I, have a wonderful life?
Mother says yes without, any strife.

Mother, Mother, the years have flown by.
Mother says yes, with a tear in her eye.

Mother May I, help you along?
Mother says yes, where has time gone?

Mother May I, hold your hand?
Mother says yes, sounds like a plan.

Mother May I, live as long as you and Dad?
Mother says yes, that’d make me glad

Mother May I, assist in any way?
Mother says yes, but not today.

Mother May I, profess my love?
Mother says yes, but it's written above.
