Obituary for Ellie Petronelle Evans (Janssen)

Born November 29, 1947, died age 67 at Elisabeth Bruyère Hospital in Ottawa on November 21, 2015. Former spouse of Hugh, and mother to Owen (Julie), Patrick (Maggie), Warren (Sarah), and Hilary (Duncan). Oma to Mavis, Tyler, Quentin, Hudson, Wenonah, and Lumi. Sister to Annie (Jim), John, Ina, Mary (Cliff), and Geraldine (Murray), and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Born in Benschop, Netherlands, Ellie and her family immigrated to Canada in 1952 and settled in Mount Bridges, Ontario. Ellie and Hugh were married in 1968, travelled Europe for a year, and in 1975 moved to Sault Ste. Marie where they stayed for over 20 years. Ellie was a passionate nurse and an accomplished artist of various crafts. She was a member of the Sault Potters’ Guild for 18 years, and her original hooked rugs toured the province with the Ontario Crafts Council. Her other artistic pursuits included stained-glass, sewing, crochet, piano, and painting. Friends and family are welcome to attend a visitation with Ellie’s family at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue (at Richmond Road), on Thursday November 26, 2015 from 3-5 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family. Ellie will be interred at St. Peter's cemetery in London, Ontario at a later date.
