Obituary for Marion Louise Curtis (Siems)

Mary Lou passed away surrounded by family. Beloved wife of the late Bert Curtis (January 2, 2015). Predeceased by daughter, Wendy. Lovingly remembered by daughter Marjorie (Andrew), step-son Ted (Jeannine), and grandchildren Gabriel, Pilar, and Chloe. Mary Lou will also be missed by Susan and Gerard, friends who lovingly cared for her, especially since her health declined. Mary Lou began her career as an elementary school teacher. After raising her family, she earned a Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation, for which she was particularly proud. As a master organizer, she was a valued volunteer in her community and at the Unitarian Church. From planning events to planting her herb garden, every undertaking was performed with enviable precision. Whether in Vancouver, Ottawa or Thunder Bay, Mary Lou and Bert’s home was always a welcoming place where friends could enjoy drinks and delicious meals. The family extends their gratitude to the many staff and healthcare workers who cared for Mary Lou over the last twelve months. True to Mary Lou’s character, she chose to have her body donated to the University of Ottawa. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa Church, 30 Cleary Ave, Ottawa, on Friday November 27 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations greatly appreciated to Sick Kids Foundation, 525 University Avenue, 14th floor, Toronto, Ontario, M5G 2L3. Please direct your donation to cancer research.
