Obituary for Charlotte Elizabeth Pomroy (Rafuse)

Charlotte Elizabeth Pomroy (Rafuse)
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Charlotte on May 16, 2016. Charlotte is survived by her husband of 55 years, Chris, and her children Ian (Donnalyn McClymont), Susan, Alison Lister (Greg) and Neil (Devi Krieger). Grandmother of Gillian and Graham Lister and Zoshia Pomroy. Born in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, on July 30, 1935, daughter of the late Margaret Elizabeth (Veinot) and Charles Harvey Rafuse, descendent of German and French Protestant settlers of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, 1753. While Charlotte was unable to attend university, which she deeply regretted, she graduated as an executive secretary from Mount Allison Commercial College in 1955. She worked at CBHT in Halifax and subsequently as a medical secretary in obstetrics at Dalhousie University until the birth of her first child in 1963. After moving to Ottawa with her family in 1966, and when her children were older, she worked as an office assistant at the Ottawa-Carleton Board of Education and then later at the Ottawa Catholic School Board. She had a keen interest in classics and literature and over the years took many courses in these topics at Carleton University. Charlotte served on the parents’ council at Riverside Park Nursery School, Fielding Drive Public School and Brookfield High School. She volunteered for many years at St. Patrick’s Home. Friends are invited to a Funeral service at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry 315 McLeod St. (at O'Connor) on Friday May 20th at 11:30 a.m. Donations to the Ottawa Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, 1826 Woodward Avenue, Ottawa ON K2C 0P7, would be appreciated.
