Condolence From: Dawn Latourell
Condolence: Owen was one the most caring and considerate people I have ever known. The knowledge and experience that he shared with everyone that he was involved with will never be forgotten.
The last time I ran into him outside the Scotiabank, he once again offered wonderful advice and a much needed hug.
I will miss his very much.
My deepest sympathies to Lynn and his family.

Condolence: I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the family of Owen Fitz'Gerald

I was very sad today to hear of the passing of Mr. Fitz'Gerald.....I call him that because that's what I called him at Ridgemont High School in the early 80's. I took auto mechanics in grade 9 and Mr. Fitz'Gerald was always around to help and give patient advice even though it was clear I would never be a handy guy in the garage. I always blamed it on the fact that there were no left handed screwdrivers.

That being said as Bert Beechey has already mentioned Mr. Fitz'Gerald had a very big influence in the lives of many of my classmates. He had a knack of identifying those kids that were struggling a little academically and helped many of them get involved in the cooperative education program at our school. I'm not sure if he invented the Co-op program but he certainly made it work very well at Ridgemont.

Anyhow at that time I was already involved in the PC Party of Canada and enjoyed politics quite a bit. I can remember an occasional conversation in the halls about politics in general with Mr. Fitz'Gerald although he never let on who he supported, I guess back in the early 80's teachers still believed that politics should stay out of the classroom.

Anyhow fast forward to the early 2000's and I am working as an organizer in Conservative politics and who do I run into at a riding association meeting in Leeds Grenville but Mr.Fitz'Gerald. Turns out he was an active and proud Conservative. We had some laughs about the good old days at Ridgemont and of course some great political conversations. I was happy to re-connect with "Owen" at that time and I was lucky to get to see him many times in the subsequent years that followed.

Those who were fortunate enough to have known Owen Fitz'Gerald were better for it. RIP

Condolence: I remember Owen as a warm and caring teacher who saved more than one young student with his encouragement and practical assistance such as finding them a job. I am personally going to miss his very conservative political email messages and the slaps on the wrist for my left wing views. We both enjoyed the give and take. Bert

Cheers to a man who always made you feel beautiful. Millie
