Peacefully, at Beacon Heights Retirement Residence, Ottawa, on Tuesday, September 19th, 2017, at age 92. Catherine was born in Montreal on February 20, 1925, the first child of James Watson and Mary Himbury and the loved and loving older sister of Dorothy Kennedy (2012). Catherine was the cherished aunt of Marianne Kennedy Beaulne, Marianne’s husband Dave, and their sons Joey and Mikey. She is fondly remembered by William Kennedy, her brother-in-law and unofficial chauffeur for the last five years. Catherine worked for 47 years at the Canadian Pacific Railway and enjoyed an active retirement in Montreal until moving, at age 86, to be closer to family in Ottawa. In Ottawa, she continued to enjoy a trip to the casino or the mall (as long as she was spending on others) and indulging her sweet tooth. The family wishes to express their special thanks to the staff at Beacon Heights Retirement Residence, Montfort Hospital and Drs. Megan Apsimon and Arzadeh Arjmandi, for their care over the last year as the COPD which Catherine had so long outpaced began to overtake her; their support made it possible for her to spend her last days at home as she wished. Friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road (at Aviation Parkway) Ottawa, on Wednesday, September 27th, 2017 after 10am until the Memorial Service in the Chapel at 11am. A Funeral Mass and interment will be held in Montreal at a later date. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ontario Lung Association, the Montfort Hospital Foundation or a charity of choice.
