Elizabeth (Betty) Mullen, 93, came to Canada in 1947 as a war bride from Hastings, England. Survived by Anne & Maurice Charlebois, Billy & Debbie Mullen, Patrick Mullen & Qui Le, Harold Mullen & Elizabeth Bemben and Jodi Mullen & Kevin Goldmintz. Betty had seven grand children & loving partners: Roxanne Charlebois, Robin Charlebois & Maria Oliveira, Randy Charlebois, Richard Charlebois, Miranda Mullen & Marie Desrosier, Wanda & Tim West, Christine Mullen-Johnson & Greg Johnson and 3 great grandchildren: Briana Dorval-Charlebois, Zackary Desrosier & Gabrielle Desrosier. Betty (Mum or Gran) touched the lives of so many people in such a positive way starting with her immediate family, always ready to help, giving sound advice and listening. Mum was great at bringing people together in moments of joy. She knew this meant balancing both the big and the small, from organizing overseas trips to visit family and friends in England and Australia to planning family picnics or taking time to build pillow forts with her grandchildren. Her generosity was endless, no matter how little she had she knew there could be someone worse off than herself and was always ready to help, in her own way and never expecting anything in return. Her smile and her laugh, her sense of impish fun – never dull, stuffy, judgmental or boring – she was a breath of fresh air to her many friends. Betty brought joy to the families that she worked for, always doing her very best and taking pride in a job very well done and always willing to jump-in and help when families needed her. She was a natural at developing friendships with so many people and rekindling relationships with her family in England, after a 30 year gap. By creating a home and inviting friends into it, love grew. Over the last 34 years, while living in a seniors building Betty made many new friends, and she loved her involvement in the social committee - organizing events, planning day trips and using her many skills to benefit others. Betty passed away on Thursday 5th April at the Civic Hospital. Please join us and help us celebrate the EXCEPTIONAL life of Betty Mullen at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue (at Byron), Ottawa, on Wednesday, 10th April for visitation from 2 p.m. until the time of the Service in the Chapel at 4p.m., with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Room to Read would be appreciated.
