Obituary for Bradley Eugene Warren Brooks

Brad died unexpectedly at home in Ottawa on June 30, 2016 at the age of 52. Brad is survived by his wife Sarah; beloved daughters Josie and Lucy; siblings Dawn MacCormick of Debert NS, Tracey Brooks of Annapolis Royal, NS and Mark Brooks (Kristen) of Fort Erie, ON. He is also survived by his parents-in-law Pauline and Alan Wills, sister-in-law Hannah Winter; Aunt Joan (Bob Glover), Aunt Dorothy Tait and Uncle Grant Brooks (Shirley); and nieces and nephews Shawn, Ashley, Michael, Connor, Caitlin, Annabel and Mia. Brad was born in Kentville, NS on November 22, 1963, to the late Eugene and Gail Brooks. He earned a PhD in Sociology from the University of Cambridge, where he met Sarah. They married in 2000. A dedicated and beloved dad, Brad also made significant contributions to the Ottawa Girls Hockey Association and as a longtime federal public servant at Statistics Canada. A Memorial Service will be held at the West Chapel of Hulse Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue (at Richmond Road) on Saturday, July 9 at 1:30 pm. Reception to follow. For those unable to attend the memorial service on Saturday, you are invited to visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, on Friday from 4:30-6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Right to Play Canada, (www.righttoplay.ca ) respecting Brad’s dedication to empowering kids through sport, or to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca), honouring the untimely deaths of many friends and family.
