Condolence: Steve était un agent du Service extérieur de très grande qualité. Nous étions tous les deux de grands compétiteurs dans cette course folle et effrénée vers le niveau EX pendant plusieurs années. He must have been as much frustrated as I was at that time . Il était calme et patient devant ce défi et tout simplement pour cela,Steve méritait plus que tout autre agent cette promotion. I admired him as a beautiful person and as an exceptional FSO officer . Jean-Yves Dionne former Consul General of Canada in Rio de Janeiro Saint-Sauveur , Quebec

Condolence: I'm not much younger than Steve, but very much considered him a mentor. For me, he modelled how to successfully represent Canada abroad. Steve never made himself the mission. He painstakingly pursued Canada's interests, managed his staff and resources with aplomb, and generously assisted his colleagues. The foreign service needs more true professionals like Steve Brereton! Our shared enthusiasm for baseball generated much opportunity for discussion and camaraderie. His devotion to his family - and to his Church - were and are an inspiration. Carolyn, William and James - I am profoundly sorry for your loss.

Condolence: Steve was a prince of a man. From the time he listened to my tales of Japanese language training woes in 1985 in Tokyo to our shared history at US posts, Steve was always a superlative colleague and friend, and just always a superb human being. So sad that his enjoyment of retirement was foreshortened. Heartfelt condolences to Carolyn and family. Deanna in Stratford
