Obituary for Diana Margaret Dyer (Spencer)

April 23, 1922 - December 25, 2018

Died peacefully on Tuesday, December 25th, at the Rockcliffe Retirement Residence, Ottawa. Predeceased in 2000, by Vice Admiral Kenneth Dyer, her husband of 54 years. She was commended for bravery while serving in London during the Blitz as a young Lieutenant in the Signals Corps, Royal Canadian Navy. A supporter and fundraiser for the Save the Children Fund, and Dame Commander of the Military & Hospitaller Order of St. Lazarus, she was also privileged in 1967 to be appointed general convener of the Poppy Campaign for the Royal Canadian Legion. Everything she undertook was done with style and assurance. In her late 40s, with a grown family, and no prior business experience, she bought and ran a successful chain of beauty salons. She will be remembered throughout her life for her elegance, talent, and kindness.

She is greatly missed by her children Kenneth, David (Tina), John, Michael (Cindy), Deborah (Patrick), her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. A Memorial Service will take place at Hulse, Playfair & McGarry - Central Chapel at 3 pm on January 26th. In lieu of flowers, it was her wish that people make donations to a charity of their choice.
