Obituary for Alice Margaret Hall (nee Perry)

Alice Margaret Hall (nee Perry)

February 19, 1927 - January 31, 2022

Passed away peacefully at the Elisabeth Bruyère Residence in Ottawa on January 31, 2022. Alice was just two weeks shy of her 95th birthday. Predeceased by her beloved husband James Harper Hall, QC (1916-2001). Loving mother of Nancy (Chelsea, QC) and Lynda (Ottawa, ON) and wonderful Grandma to Emily (John), Hannah (PG), David (Olivia) and Rudy (Tegan). Dear daughter of the late Winnifred Mary Wight and Alfred Melville Perry, and predeceased by her dear brother David (Beth) of Ottawa. Also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews from the Perry and Hall families. Alice was a wonderful, brilliant and witty woman, a talented landscape artist and a wonderful Mom. She loved her painting excursions to Gatineau Park and the Wakefield QC area as well as time spent at a well-remembered artists’ camp at Lake Obabika, Temagami Ontario. She spent many of her childhood summers at the Wight ancestral farm, “the Lilacs” in Athens, Ontario and following her marriage to Jim, spent wonderful times at their first home in Gleneagle, Chelsea, Quebec and their family cottage at Blue Sea Lake Quebec. Alice spent many summers with her children at the cottage as Jim commuted back and forth to work at his legal firm in Ottawa. An avid painter, gardener, knitter and reader she was always busy with a new project. Alice was a keen traveller and a highlight was her trip to New Zealand to visit the birthplace of her father Alfred in Whanganui on the North Island. A private family gathering will occur at a later date. A special thank you to the caregiving staff at the Elisabeth Bruyère Residence for the wonderful care given to Alice over the past six years. Donations to the Nature Conservancy of Canada, the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Foundation Fighting Blindness are gratefully accepted.
