Obituary for Bruno Antonio Giacobbi

March 22 1929 to August 20 2020.
Passed away peacefully on August 20, 2020 at the age of 91.

He is survived by his adoring wife Italia of 65 years; his loving children Eva (Daniel), Roberto (Dale) and Christian (Michelle). Cherished by his beloved grandchildren Jason, Jennifer, Joshua, Julia and Derek. He was predeceased by his parents Norina and Luigi and brother Franco.

Bruno was born in Calalzo di Cadore, Italy, where he shared a close bond with his older brother Franco while perfecting his soccer craft. During World War II, he belonged to the Juventus Soccer Youth Division Seria C (A.S.D. Giorgione Calcio). Bruno had also proudly served for 2 years with the Italian Military.
He married his beautiful bride Italia on February 19, 1955, and a year later welcomed his daughter Eva. A short time later, Bruno immigrated to Canada in 1956 to start a new life for his family in Ottawa, ON, were they welcomed children Roberto and Christian.
In addition to being a loving husband and father, Bruno thoroughly enjoyed his career as a professional pastry chef, working at several world-class hotels. He graduated from and taught at the Algonquin College Culinary School, and was a proud member of the Canadian Federation of Chefs de Cuisine.
Bruno’s favourite pastimes included watching sports, playing soccer, bocce and cards, while passionately coaching and cheering on his kids, grandkids and their teammates.
As Bruno’s battle came to a close, he still found the strength to eagerly inquire about his families’ lives, maintained his sense of humour throughout and cherished his final moments with the love of his life.
He will be missed by his family and friends and will always live on in our hearts and memories. Bruno’s life was filled with purpose and with love.
