Obituary for Carmen Berthe Nelson (Paquette)
Born in Ottawa on March 2, 1927, of cherished French and Irish roots, Carmen Berthe (Paquette) Nelson passed away peacefully in her Orleans home on the night of January 13, 2020 just 6 weeks shy of her 93rd birthday. With her husband of 58 years, Shaw Higginson Nelson of Navan ON (deceased 2005), they raised 4 daughters and 1 son: Dawn Paquette of Hammond ON married to Mike, Darlene MacInnis of Kingston ON, Laurie McGraw of Ottawa married to Eric, Debbie McLaren (deceased 2017) of Ottawa married to Ian, Robert Nelson of Orleans married to Susan Evans. Raised in a large family of 8 children, Carmen now leaves behind her beloved sister Therese Therrien of Ottawa. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many dear nieces and nephews. Described by her grandchildren as funny, fun-loving, kind-hearted, generous, strength of a lioness, Nanny loved to dance and sing, she made the best tourtiere; Nanny/Mom/Carmen will be very greatly missed by her large and loving family! May she sing and dance in heaven with her dearly beloved husband Shaw and daughter Debbie. Due to Covid 19 pandemic a memorial service will be held at Navan-Vars United Church, 1129 Smith Road, Navan at a later date and will be announced.
