Obituary for Cheuck Yiu "Mark" Mak

Cheuck Yiu MAK
1937-2020

Cheuck Yiu Mak (Mark) passed away peacefully in his 83rd year, on June 22, 2020 at Billingswood Manor, Ottawa with his daughters by his bedside and with the rest of his family expressing their farewells outside his bedroom window.

Mark will be sadly missed by his children Sandy (Edison), Alex, and Elizabeth (Howard) who have fond memories of bread sticks from Green Valley, his homemade eggrolls, chicken balls with pineapple sauce and freshly baked almond cookies. Mark was also a proud grandfather to Remmick (Tuan), Ysabelle, Jameson, Samie and Noah and a great grandpa to Brayden and Bennett who will definitely miss his sweet smooches.

Mark found joy with a number of friendships over the years including with Lily for the last 21 years and most recently with friends since moving into Billingswood Manor. He will be remembered for his kindness, gentle ways and sense of humour by those that came to know him.

The good Lord sent his angels to shower Mr. Mak and his family with love and care by way of the entire staff at Billingswood Manor and caregivers from Bayshore HealthCare during his brief illness with cancer. Many thanks to Millie, for the fun rides that she provided to Mr. Mak in his transport chair at lightening speeds through the home, to Rosalie, for her constant prayers over Mr. Mak during the wee hours of the morning with each of her overnight shifts with Betsy and her happy dance for answered prayers, to Barbara, Deborah, Sheila, Rozina, Monica, Jenny and Onyss, for their daily care to keep Mr. Mak comfortable and snug as a bug and looking good each day, to Mylena, Cialo, Chinnu, Selkey, for ensuring that Mr. Mak takes his liquid Tylenol with apple sauce even though it tastes awful, to Joan for checking up regularly on Mr. Mak and serving him ginger ale and ice cream, to all the kitchen staff in their efforts to meet Mr. Mak's dietary needs as his illness progressed, and to Michael and Beatrice for their tireless efforts into keeping everyone safe and sane in the home with respect to COVID-19.

Our family much appreciated all the care, support and guidance provided along the way by Dr. Kelvin Chan, Mark's family doctor and Amanda who never ceased to arrange timely appointments with Dr. Chan for us, Dr. Isabelle Bence-Bruckler, Mark's oncologist and her loving guidance into making difficult decisions with his illness, Geoff, Mark's palliative care nurse, and Dr. Bridget Thompson, Mark's palliative care doctor.

Many thanks also to the countless prayers, words of encouragement and kind thoughts that were provided in support of Mark and his family with this journey. We have been truly blessed.

In consideration of everyone's safety due to COVID-19, Mark will be placed to rest at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa after a private family led service.
