Obituary for Colette Fortune (nee Giroux)

It is with heavy hearts that we must say goodbye to Colette in her 90th year.  Predeceased by her beloved husband of 40 years Patrick Fortune, and her youngest son David (Elisabeth) of Brockville. Loving mother of Peggy (Patrick Borbey) and Patrick (Cathy King) of Ottawa. She will also be dearly missed by her brother Arthur Giroux and late brothers George and Robert Giroux.  Grandma was so special to Daniel Borbey (Kelsey Tobin), Jennifer Fortune (Steven Gendron), Eric Borbey, Melissa Fortune, David Fortune, Mathieu Borbey, Dominic Fortune and Jessica Fortune.  She was also a delighted and proud great grandmother “GG” to 7 girls and one boy. Also survived by her niece Yvonne Westhaver (Rick) of Nova Scotia.  Born in Ottawa to Lionel Giroux (1907 – 1974) and Yvonne Beaucaire (1907-1985) she loved to keep up with her older brothers and was anxious to begin working.  At only 15 she joined the Central Pay Office of the Canadian Federal Government, as a key punch operator. She went on to several other roles using her key punch skills and also travelled to many foreign postings with her husband – moving houses many times!  But her true loves were family, painting and other types of art and stitching, birding, travelling and gardening.  Mom had a wonderful sense of humour and was well liked by all who met her. Family and friends are invited to visit the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa on Friday July 29, 2022 from 1 pm until Service time in the Chapel at 2 pm.
