Obituary for Diane Mintz (Koffman)

Diane Mintz (Koffman) was born in Ottawa on July 14, 1952, to a tight-knit extended family raised on Rideau Bakery bread. A social worker by profession, Diane was a tireless volunteer and community-minded advocate for social justice. Her wide social network and circle of close friends filled her heart. She delighted in getting to know and feed her children’s friends (and their kids). Enthralled by the outdoors, she kept active with hiking, cycling, water aerobics, and fitness classes. In her early years, she was an avid softball player, swimmer, cross-country skier, and snowshoer.

She died, aged 68, on June 26, 2021. Mourned by her beloved husband Eric, daughter Kaila, and sister Zena (John/Sweetie). Predeceased by her parents Milty and Bea, brother Alan, and son Aaron. Cherished aunt to Sammy (Jodi), Tova (Chris), Lorne (Hadar), Tami (Chris), Susan, and Julie, and great-aunt to Heali, Ben, Levi, Libby, Olivia, and Zachary. Adopted mother of Buna the dog.

Her love of travel (and Eric) brought her to Newfoundland in the 1970s. She visited much of Canada and the US, stayed on a kibbutz in Israel, backpacked across South America and Western Europe, and explored Eastern Africa with Eric, Kaila, and Aaron. She adventured further through food, savouring especially Chinese, Indian, Thai, and Vietnamese cuisines. Diane adopted Corner Brook, her chosen home, with open arms, and the community adopted her. Taken from the world too soon, she will be missed.

The funeral is by INVITATION ONLY and will take place at 3pm Eastern time (4:30pm in Newfoundland) on Friday, July 2 and will be live-streamed here: Diane Mintz Funeral Livestream (we encourage people to watch together as there are a limited number of streams available).

The family will sit shiva outdoors (weather-permitting) at 1597 Dorion Avenue in Ottawa on Sunday July 4, Monday July 5, and Tuesday July 6 from 1:30-4:30pm.
