It is with great sadness to say that Dieter passed away August 23, 2020 at the Elisabeth Bruyère Palliative Care Centre, after a long battle with Cancer. A great gratitude goes out to all the staff, nurses and doctors, for their compassion and care for both Dieter and family.

He was born in Linz, Austria and moved to Canada with his family when he was just a child.

Predeceased by his father Reinhold and mother Michaela.

Survived by his loving wife and soul mate Lucinda Murrell, brother Michael, sister Ingrid, sister Karin Pouliotte (Brian), and various nieces, a nephew and great nieces and nephews.

Dieter retired from the Ottawa General Hospital in 2015 after 37 years of service. He started in Biomedical Engineering, then moved over into the Information Systems Department.

Dieter had a passion for cars and driving. He became an Advanced High-Speed Performance Driving instructor with the BMW Car Club of Ottawa, teaching at Race Tracks, Calabogie, Tremblant, Toronto and many American tracks. He was happiest when he was at a track event and never tired of it. He loved to help people become better and safer drivers.

He was such a lovable man, with a big heart, beaming smile and great bear hugs. He loved people and touched so many lives with his positiveness and joy. Anyone who met him was drawn into the magnetic force that was Dieter. He will be greatly missed by Lucinda, his family and by his life-long friend Chuck Robinson and family, as well as our dearest friends, Frank Eng and Lynn Salvador.

We love you Dieter and will miss you forever. You will never be forgotten.

Due to COVID-19, the Celebration of his life is being postponed to a later date.

Donations to the Elisabeth Bruyère Foundation - Palliative Care Centre in Memory of Dieter, would be greatly appreciated.

My sincere condolences to Lucinda, as well as to Dieter’s family and friends.

I was Dieter’s supervisor at TOH for about 8 years. You could not have asked for a more dedicated employee.

Dieter would be at work at almost any hour to take care of anything that came up. He would not stop until an issue was solved. He always had a smile and a laugh, and enjoyed a good joke. His experience and knowledge could always be counted on when it was needed.

Most managers consider themselves to be a mentor to their staff. In this case however, I must say that Dieter was more of a mentor to me - especially with his vast technical expertise.

I also like to think of him as a friend. I’ve watched him at track events, and shared a similar love of cars - a couple of years ago, I even ended up buying a car exactly like his.

Dieter will be missed by all.

Please accepts my condolences on the passing of Dieter. Although we worked in different departments Dieter was my contact for both BioMed and then IS. Many fond memories of our work experiences. Thoughts and prayers for Lucinda and the whole Kostron family.

I was very sad to learn of Dieter’s passing. I have known him when I was VP Professional Services at the Ottawa General from 1994 to 2000. He always struck me as a very hard working and dedicated individual, and always looked calm and in a good mood. My condolences to his wife and family

Dieter was a big man with an equally big heart and a smile that could light up a room. It was my privilege to have known him.
