Obituary for Dorene Sylvia Hurtig
Dorene Hurtig, 88, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 29th, 2020. Born in Providence, Rhode Island U.S.A., she was the daughter of Harry and Esther (Yanku) Schwartz.
She is survived by her sisters Janet Sternbach and Myra Jerozal and her step-children Mark, Joanne and Cynthia Hurtig. She is predeceased by her husband Henry Hurtig, her daughter Julia Hurtig and her step-daughter Annette Hurtig.
Dorene graduated from the University of Rhode Island and obtained her MSW from Carleton University. She had a long, fulfilling career in the field of social work in Rhode Island and in Ottawa. Everyone who was fortunate enough to know Dorene was impressed by her. She was a generous supporter of the arts in Ottawa and was admired by her community.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated and compassionate staff of the care agencies, the Ottawa Civic Hospital and all those individuals who helped Dorene during her last few weeks.
She will be missed by her close friends, her neighbours and her family.
