It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy (D'vora) Browns announces the passing, on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 in Ottawa, at the age of 95 years. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Morris and her older sister Jennie Morton. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her children, Shmuel (the late Bonna), Baruch (Elyse), Jonathan (Cindy) and will also be fondly remembered by her eight grandchildren, Tiferet (Boaz), Uriel (Tal), Bezalel (Shira), Amitai, Adirchai, Noam (Aaron), Yonah, Micah, and five great grandchildren Maya, Shani, Matan, Moriya and Lishai.

Dorothy was born in Lowertown in Ottawa in 1925. She graduated from Lisgar Collegiate, after surviving brain surgery. Her interest in medicine led her to Montreal and New York to study to be a lab technician. She and her husband Morris lived in Palestine from 1947 to 1953 and were pioneers in building Kibbutz Ein Dor. Dorothy was instrumental to the Jewish community in Ottawa by teaching Hebrew School, was a founder of Temple Israel congregation, as well as the OR Haneshamah, Ottawa's Reconstructionist synagogue. Her bookkeeping skills assisted numerous organizations including Pioneer Women, United Church of Canada and others. Dorothy regularly invited strangers over for dinner and they became lifelong friends. She was always generous to family, friends and charity requests. Dorothy was someone who regularly offered a compliment, and required a kiss upon seeing her.
