Obituary for Ivan Silverman

Edward Ivan Silverman

It is with profound sadness that we inform you of the passing of Ivan on February 16 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Ivan passed away peacefully, surrounded by those he loved. He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Sadie (nee Beckman). Survived by Anna Silverman, his sons David, Shawn and Joshua (Destini McLean) and Donna Waserman. He is also survived by sisters Noreen Bosloy (Syd) and Audrey Levy (the late Lou), as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Ivan went back to school at age 50 and completed the Funeral Directors Program with honours. His time spent with Hulse, Playfair and McGarry helping families during the most difficult times in their lives was the most rewarding tenure of his professional career. Ivan was a valued member of the Ottawa Chevra Kadisha.

Ivan’s greatest joy in life was making people laugh, which he did right up to the end with the nurses, volunteers and doctors, and all those who came to visit. Ivan’s family is tremendously grateful to the dedicated nurses, volunteers, doctors and staff of the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday February 18 at 2pm at the Jewish Memorial Chapel 1771 Cuba Ave. Internment to follow at Bank Street. Shiv’ah will be observed at the home of Anna Silverman 280 McClellan Road unit 72.
