Ladds, Florence (nee Bird) - Peacefully on Saturday, March 6th at the Colonel By Residence at the age of 91. Beloved wife of the late John Frederick Ladds. Florence was born on February 27, 1930 at the Grace Hospital in Ottawa. She grew up in the Village of Overbrook in the Township of Gloucester. After graduating from High School of Commerce her first job was with MetLife and then with the Federal Government, beginning with the RCMP in the Department of Finance Superannuation Branch and eventually working in the Department of Energy Mines and Resources, Resource Management Branch. For a time Florence and her husband, John, lived in France and Belgium while John was working for NATO.
Florence was dedicated to her community and giving back. She was a very active member of the first Board of Directors at the Landmark of Hunt Club. She taught Sunday school at Riverside United Church and helped out at many fundraising events including her tourtière pie sales. Florence held a volunteer palliative care position at the Glebe Centre Long Term Care Facility, enjoyed her membership with the Council on Aging and its Volunteer Co-ordination and Membership Development Committee as well as her involvement with the 14th Community Service Centre
Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Friday, March 19, 2021, with a Service in the Chapel to follow. Due to current COVID restrictions, attendance in person is limited. Those wishing to attend must register using the RSVP feature on the Hulse, Playfair & McGarry website at www.hpmcgarry.ca. The service will also be livestreamed and can be viewed on the website. Donations in memory of Florence to Elder Dog Canada would be appreciated.
