Obituary for George "Ren" Molnar

May 26, 1937- July 2, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family, and his partner Merri, announce the passing of George Renny (Ren) Molnar after a brief stay in hospital, on July 2, 2020, at the age of 83. Ren is survived by his sons Rennie (Stephanie), Victor (Brenda) and daughter Jaye (Dwight). Also left to mourn are his grandchildren Jayson (Emily), Stephen (Sandra), Jessica (Jordan), Amanda (Luiz), Emma (Michael), and Kate (Michael) and great-grandson Avery. He will also be missed by his sisters Esther and Della, and his brother Freddie.

Ren was predeceased by his mother and father Helen and Louis Molnar, his brothers John, Charles and Finley, and his sisters Alice and Martha. He was also predeceased by his wives Faye and Suzanne.

Ren was born in Saskatchewan and was proud to be Canadian. The focus of his heart was always his family. He had many different careers starting out in the Canadian Navy working as a Communicator, followed by working for the RCMP as a linguist and translator. He then went on to follow his passion which was home renovations. Ren was especially proud to have started the first Pre-Purchase Home Inspection business in Ottawa, and to have been the voice for almost 18 years of the Renovations Cross Canada Saturday morning show on CFRA, along with co-host, John Caines. He was an avid gardener and loved to watch his yard go through the seasons, especially when his wild roses bloomed in front and people stopped by to enjoy their beauty.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Hollands, Dr. Blew and Dr. Niznick for their care and the many outstanding nurses who contributed along the way.

There will be a cremation and a brief private service followed by burial in the military section of Beechwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Ottawa Heart Institute or the charity of your choice.
