Obituary for Georgina Catherine "Gina" Commerford

Georgina Catherine "Gina" Commerford
May 19, 1929 – May 4, 2020

Two weeks shy of her 91st birthday, Gina (Georgina) McNeil Commerford passed after a brief battle with COVID-19. She’s broken away from her physical barriers and is now free to move back to Nova Scotia. Gina joins her mother Catherine Roach and father Ernest McNeil, her only sister Mary, brothers Frances, Norman, Alexander, John, and Angus, and numerous other family and friends.

Nana waved a final farewell to her three daughters: Sandy (husband Dan MacLean, children Kayleigh and Ian), Selene (husband John Everett, children Katharine and Ken, wife Megan Whattam) and Sharlene (children Kevin and his children Alex and Emma, and Jamie-Lynn, husband Paul Raine and their children Owen, Noah and Cole).

Gina started life in Reserve Mines (Cape Breton), moved to Halifax where she met her sailor husband Ken (predeceased 2013), welcomed Sharlene, and then moved to Montreal where Selene and Sandy joined the family. She moved to Nepean in 1991 to be closer to her daughters.

Dementia and Huntington’s have touched our families directly. Should you wish to donate, we would appreciate you considering The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County (https://dementiasociety.thankyou4caring.org/) and Huntington’s Canada (Yes, I Want to Donate!). Condolences may be sent to ginacommerford@rogers.com.

Gina was independent, feisty and a social butterfly. You can honour her memory by singing along with Neil Diamond while he belts out Sweet Caroline. Enjoy your glass of Red, Red Wine, Mom, while we try to figure out why your purse (that you took everywhere) weighed 10 pounds!
