Obituary for Gerald Keith Tallman

Gerald Keith Tallman It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Gerald K. Tallman of Kemptville. Gerald was surrounded by his entire family at his home on Sunday May 2, 2021, when he peacefully passed away at the age of 79 years old. Beloved husband of his loving wife of 55 wonderful years; Louise. Loving father to his two sons; Kevin (and wife Alison) and Kirk. Cherished Grandpa (Papa “G”) of Paige, Parker, Peyton, Kobe, Tara and Avery. Gerald will be sadly missed by his sister Ann Andrews (and her late husband Lester Andrews) and Family; his brother Gordon Tallman (and his wife Beverly) and Family; his brother Donald Tallman (and his wife Diana) and Family. He will also be missed by the Family of his Predeceased sister Betty MacDonald (and her late husband Joe MacDonald); by his “special” first cousin Judy Hyland and by his many nieces and nephews. Gerald was a successful businessman who started his small truck dealership business in Kemptville, Ontario in 1973 and built it into one of the largest and most respected truck dealerships in North America. In 2004, Gerald was honored with International Truck Corporation’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Then, in 2015 Gerald’s company was awarded Navistar’s prestigious North American Dealer of the Year- the highest honor bestowed on an International truck dealer. Gerald was equally as successful as a Community Leader and Philanthropist. For over 50 years Gerald was active in his Community. He led numerous fundraising efforts including his role in 2004 as Chairman of the “Lean on Me Campaign” to raise $5 million for the Kemptville District Hospital. Gerald kicked off the campaign with a personal donation of $500,000, which at the time was the single largest donation in the Hospital’s history. In recognition of his work as Chairman and his generous donation, the new Emergency Wing at the Kemptville District Hospital was named in his honor (The Tallman Family Emergency Department). Gerald also won numerous awards in his community, including North Grenville Citizen of the Year in 2006 and North Grenville Business of the year in 2013. Gerald will be sadly missed by his loving family, many great friends, loyal customers and especially his Community. A Private Graveside service will take place with immediate family only, due to Covid restrictions on Thursday May 6,2021 at 11 am. A Public Celebration of Gerald’s Life will take place at a later date. Donations can be made in Gerald’s memory to the Kemptville District Hospital Foundation or Christ Anglican Church, in Burritts Rapids.   

A PRIVATE Celebration of Gerald's life will take place at  Athens, Ontario on Saturday May 14, 2022 at 11 am, for those who would like to watch the service livestreamed, the link will be available below on this webpage Saturday morning.
