Obituary for Giovanna "Gina" Andrella

Giovanna "Gina" Andrella
(nee Marangon)
January 15, 1929 - March 28, 2020

Peacefully at the age of 91. Beloved wife of Angelo “Bosco” Andrella for 70 years. Born in Italy, to Erminio Marangon and Domenica (Pomini). Gina met and married her life long partner while working in Belgium. They were later enticed to a more prosperous life in Canada and settled in Ottawa. A most selfless and devoted mother to Orlando (Pina Marcantonio), Graziella (Denis Chouinard) and Maria (Marc Deslauriers). Proud nonna, she will be greatly missed by grandchildren, Martin (Natalie Seymand), Michael (Mayra Loyo), Nicholas (Tania Garcia), Pamela, Talia and Dante. Bisnonna to her great-grandchildren Jack, Graciela, Lucca, Lewis and Annalisa. She will be sadly missed by her sister Maria (late Giulio) and her brother Giuseppe (Giulianna) of Italy. Predeceased by her sisters Natalina and Emilia, her brothers Antonio, Luigi and Giovanni also of Italy. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews both from Italy and Switzerland. Gina was fortunate to live life filled with travels, dances, picnics and card playing with her many friends. Mom was happiest getting together with family and preparing her delicious specialties; always sending care packages our way even up until her last year. Many thanks to her physician Pierre Juéry and her cardiologist Terrence Ruddy for their care throughout the years. Also, a special thank you to all the caring and compassionate nurses and doctors at the Ottawa General Hospital and Elizabeth Bruyère Palliative Care. A Mass in celebration of Gina’s life will be held at St Anthony’s Church. This service will be performed at a later date when the Covid-19 virus allows us to meet again. Donations can be made to the Ottawa Kidney Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Mamma, riposa in pace.
