Obituary for Gordon King

Gordon died on Friday, June 3, 2022 at St. Patrick’s Home in Ottawa of an illness related to advanced dementia.   He was loved. He loved his wife of 56 years, Mary, father of Laura (Elizabeth), Timothy (Rocklene), grandfather of Shantelle, Cody, Arielle, and Johann, great grandfather of Clare,  sister-in-law Janet, her husband Jim and their daughters Jennifer and Jillian.

Gordon’s life was characterized by honesty, integrity and physical fitness and he lived his life guided by these attributes.  He was legally blind from birth but did not allow his disability to get in the way of anything he wanted to do.
He was educated at the University of Manitoba and Cambridge University in England. He supported several charities, notably Christie Lake Camp for Boys and Girls. He was a Master Swimmer at the Y.  He cycled and walked everywhere.  He loved his family, his friends, working as an economist at the Bank of Canada and the Department of Finance for the Canadian Government, annual summers at Lake of the Woods, and the cottage at Victoria Beach, Manitoba and annual canoe trips with his friend Alan.  Everyone who knew Gordon knew of his passion for chocolate!  We will mourn Gordon’s passing, but celebrate the life of this beautiful man.

We thank the staff of Villagia in the Glebe, St. Elizabeth’s and St. Patrick’s Home for their care of Gordon.  As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Christie Lake Camp for Kids would be appreciated.
