Obituary for Gordon H. Roston

Gordon Henry Roston
August 11, 1936 – August 19, 2020

Beloved husband of Margo (Freiman), father to Susan, Adam and Laura (Mark Budovitch), adoring Papa to Nathaniel, Ethan and Skye, brother to Diane Mary (deceased) and loving uncle to Evan, Brian (Stacey) and Joel.

Born in Chicago, Il, Gordon attended Cornell University and moved to New York, where he met Margo Freiman. From there, they shared 58 adventurous years together. Gordon’s life was full of purpose and meaning. His goal in life was to raise a family and give back to his adopted country. Gordon’s career included business, politics, public service, mediation and volunteerism. He had a zest for life that was infectious and he lived by values that affected all those around him and enriched their lives. He aspired to be a kind, honest, loyal and courageous person.

The twinkle in his eyes and his warm smile made those he met feel like part of his family. Gordon lived his life as we all should, being in the present moment. Gordon loved the arts, music and theatre. He loved tennis, squash and swimming. Every morning he went for a swim. He didn’t count laps, he just made every lap count – that is how he approached everything in life. He had that calming peaceful attribute of starting the day off right so he could embrace the days in his life with gratitude - Gratitude for his wife his children, and his community. These relationships were his treasures that made him proud and his family felt that love whenever they were with him.

The family wishes to thank his devoted caregivers, Flor, Rosa and Mohammed, and the Ottawa Hospital’s Dr. Johnathan Lau for his care and kindness. Please consider a donation in Gordon’s honor to Parkinson Canada (www.parkinson.ca)
