Obituary for Ian Alexander Nicholson

With great sadness we announce the death of Ian Alexander Nicholson, born June 20, 1948 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He passed away suddenly, while on his favourite nature walk by the family cabin in Masham, Quebec, near Ottawa where he lived, September 29, 2020.

Predeceased by his parents Jean and Ewen (Nick), Ian leaves behind his wife Ursula, son Justin, daughter-in-law Emily, siblings Patricia and Greg, sister-in-law Val, brother-in-law Jurg, many nieces and nephews, great-nephews and a great-niece.

Ian had an insatiable curiosity about life, which manifested in countless world travels, reading the complex works of a broad range of thinkers, and developing his own unique path. On this path he met the love of his life, Ursula, while traveling in India. With his son, Justin, Ian shared his passions through travel and experience, including walking a 1000km pilgrimage in Japan, spending a tough 10 days in the jungles of Peru, and always encouraging learning and growth. He loved his family beyond all else. He was full of life, love, and laughter.

“Traveller, there is no path. The path is made by walking.”
