Obituary for John "Stan" Collis

Stan was good-humoured, easy-going, thoughtful, and caring beyond measure. He was a husband, father, grandfather, UBC grad, former high school teacher and basketball coach in Nanaimo BC, federal public servant in Ottawa, and until retirement, human resources manager with an Ottawa-based printing company.

Stan loved to read, play golf and tennis, curl, cook, travel, listen to music, go to movies and the NAC, paint, tour art galleries, and keep company with the people he held dear. He was a loyal friend and neighbour, and a huge and unfailing fan of his family: wife Mary, daughter Sue, son-in-law Shawn, grand-children Teyohá:te, Kanónhsase, and Otsirakátste, and myriad nieces and nephews in Ontario and cousins in California. Stan will forever be remembered for his kind heart, generous nature, and positive approach to life.

A special thank you to the residents and staff at Starwood Long Term Care and The Royal who befriended Stan and made him feel at home in recent months.

A Celebration of Life will take place at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 1pm.  A reception will follow the service. Masks are not required in the Chapel but would be appreciated.

In lieu of flowers please consider hugging someone, planting a tree, donating to a charity of your choice, or spending time with family and friends.
