Condolence: To John's family: I was very saddened to hear of John's sudden passing. I was out of town last Friday so was unable to attend his service. I assisted John on several campaigns at CATA which John led with passion and conviction. He was always upbeat, always cheery and I will miss the opportunity of working with him. John made a great contribution to Canada's technology industry which will always be remembered and valued. Tom

Condolence: I was just getting to know John when I heard he had passed – it felt like losing a long time friend. What a brilliant guy and a dedicated Canadian.

Condolence: John was a tremendous believer in all things Canadian and someone who loved to watch people challenge themselves and flourish. A few years back I came to John regarding my interest in cyber security and my believe that something significant could be done to help Canadian cyber security innovation and advancement. His response to me was simply "Go for it". I owe John a debt of gratitude for allowing me to explore my passion and find my voice.

He will be sadly missed but remembered as a true Canadian champion for innovation and entrepreneurship. My thoughts go out to Carol and family during this difficult time but have faith that John is smiling down on all of you moving forward.

Condolence: To Carol and everyone in John's family.
It has been a blow to us all upon hearing of John's sudden passing. I warmly recall how John and I teamed up in the late 1980s to do pioneering work as advocates of our industry through CATA. All of our conversations were fun and punctuated with as many health breaks on the golf course as we could schedule. His easy humour and eternal optimism will always be alive in my memories of our collaboration over the years. My sincere condolences to John's family.

Condolence: There are certainly some people whose vibrancy, sense of life, and continuing comradeship make it seem impossible to imagine that they would ever leave...so to me, John will always be there. I can hear his voice, sense the laughter, enjoy the conversation, as if he is still standing next to me. He did more than represent our biggest and best business sector - he Lived it, every day. This sense of John's presence will no doubt be a great comfort to Carol and his grandchildren in the coming months. For his friends and colleagues, we will always remember that we are standing on the top of a hill that he made for us, and we will be grateful forever. Miss you, Mr. John.

Condolence: In our last conversation, John asked me to go to the Epic Summit in Calgary next November. I told him I would go if he went himself. He replied: "But I'm organizing the event. Of course I'll be there". So my decision was made: I will go to Calgary. The details of my participation were to be determined upon his return from Norway. And then, suddenly, three or four days later, comes this horrible news: But John has left us ... Impossible to admit this news. John was life in itself. He always had about ten projects running, yet he never dispersed. His goal was the Innovative Nation. Advancing Canada's Competitive Innovation Nation Ranking. Everything began with this desire for excellence. Everything led to it. With John, there was a contagion of the action. He was enthusiastic and had the art to transmit us his enthusiasm. This may have been due to his talent for translating his ideas into concrete gestures and god knows how many ideas he had! He generated ideas and captured the ideas of others. But let's be clear, he did not steal any idea. On the contrary: he scrupulously attributed each initiative to its author. His greatest happiness was to connect two people with different but complementary ideas. And if an agreement intervened between these two people, he stamped with joy. That was John's genius: he was an energy teacher, and he was trying to channel that energy into the only direction that mattered to him: to turn the old, lethargic Canada into an entrepreneurial and dynamic nation... When he left for Norway, I envied him. I thought he had once again found the right country to spend holidays. Norway is a country that has succeeded where Canada has only groped in the dark. As I was preparing to pack my bags to go to Morocco, I thought that the idea of Norway was undoubtedly much more fruitful and that it was John who had it. And this is precisely where it happened. This unjust, scandalous end, which makes me feel orphaned after having lost a mentor. Yes, I'm going next week to Morocco. Alone. I am cold in my soul. All the sun of the desert will not be enough to warm it. See you soon, my friend!
