Obituary for Joseph Hilton Levy

It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to Joseph (Joe) Hilton Levy, beloved son of Isra and Jacquie, brother of Rebecca and Joshua and grandson of Lesley, Joshua Z"L, Albert, Fanny Z"L, and Denise. Joe believed that every living creature was worthy of respect. He had an immense passion and love for animals from a young age, often bringing animals home to care for those that had been injured or found on the street. He could never turn away from an injustice. Joe was a creative person, whether it be the art he created or the book he had started writing. He was incredibly bright, constantly seeking new understanding and learnings about the universe. He was a thoughtful person, finding beauty and understanding in places where others might see despair. He believed in Albert Camus’ view, “it is only when we accept the absurdity of life, only when we rebel against the meaningless of the universe, do we truly become free”, and that Sisyphus was happy.

Godspeed our blue eyed boy. We miss you and love you forever and always. Due to COVID restrictions, a private graveside service will be held at the Jewish Memorial Gardens, Bank Street. Private Shiva to be observed. Donations in his memory may be made to the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, the Ottawa Humane Society or Canadian Mental Health Association (Ottawa)
