Obituary for Karen Hope Wollenschlager (Schwalm)

Wollenschlager, Karen Hope (nee Schwalm)
May 17th, 1948 - April 11th, 2021

I led such a blessed life and am so thankful for everyone and everything that has touched me along life's journey. A lifelong resident of Ottawa, I passed away at home as I wanted. Beloved wife to Brian for 52 years who was so supportive all those years in everything. Daughter of Maurine Schwalm (Duncan) who always had time to listen to anything I had to say. I was a mother to a very dedicated and supportive son Karl and his remarkable wife Lesley. My final years were spent with the other love of my life, grandson Kole. Survived by siblings Wayne and Melvin Schwalm. Niece to Gail Thompson (late Doug). Predeceased by my father, Karl-Heinz Schwalm (1966), twin Uncles, Robert Merril Duncan, and his wife Reta and Wilbert Milton Duncan and his wife Stella.

Brian and I loved to travel and camp and spent a week each summer with Kole. We were volunteers for the Ottawa International Jazz Festival for over 25 years, . My love of music encompassed singing in church choirs and the Capital Chordettes for over 20 years. Brian volunteered for over 20 years at Roger's TV as a camera operator . We attended the NAC Pops series for many years. The many long time friends we made along the way enhanced our lives immensely.

Thanks to the outstanding Pastoral Care Team at South Gloucester United Church who supported us with prayer and food throughout the last few months. To the friends from St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church who lifted us in prayer, phone calls and food.

To our long time friends, Sharon C., Irene, Skip and Anita, Barb and Roger, Joy Barrie, Earla, Helen and Wayne, Louise and Henry, Heather B., Heather and Ralph Shannik, Maria, Tracey P, Tracey W., Mary, Diane, Sharon and Rolland, Fran and Stan.

Thanks to the wonderful nurses in the Chemo unit, 2nd floor of the Ottawa General Campus, Marie at the Cancer Blood Clinic who could always find the good vein, my Palliative Care Symptom Control Doctor, Christine Whetter who always went above and beyond, Dr. Laval Grimard, Radiation Oncologist and Dr. Priscella Bright, Community Palliative Medicine.

Donations to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.
