Obituary for Kathleen Sibbald

Kathleen Sibbald
Kathleen Sibbald nee Caron
January 24, 1938 – January 5, 2020

Peacefully, at the Bruyère Continuing Care, holding her husband Dave’s hand, Kathleen left us to be with her Lord.
Kathleen was born in Campbellton, N.B. to Mary Nevin and Edgar Caron of Dalhousie, N.B. The family left for Montreal three years later. They spent their summer vacations every year back with family in New Brunswick.
Kathleen attended St. Wililbrord Academy in Verdun and attended Algonquin College in Ottawa for Personal Health Care Worker studies. She was a life-long learner, reading and debating current events with many family and friends.
She married David Sibbald in 1959. They moved to Ottawa in 1961, where they raised their four children. When the children were older, Kathleen joined the public service, working for Public Works, the Public Service Commission and the Human Rights Commission. After her retirement, she was able to volunteer at the Bayfield Residence in Kemptville. She started when her mother was a resident there and continued for 26 years. She made many friends doing the volunteering she so loved. In retirement, Kathleen was also able to enjoy her annual trips to Florida, where she perfected the art of pool noodle meditation.
Kathleen was also a long time Friend of Bill’s, and helped others in recovery or in any kind of need. She was a loving wife, mother, and sibling; a helpful neighbour; and a playful grandmother and great-grandmother.
Kathleen is profoundly missed by her husband of 60 years, David, her children Karen, Julie (Malcolm), Tracey (Steve), and David. She is cherished by her eleven grandchildren, Mary (Chris), Robert (Jessica), Kirsten, Craig, Beverley, Avery, Jay, Kaitlin, Fiona, David and Michael, and her two great-grandsons Logan and James. Kathleen is also lovingly remembered by her siblings Anne Ciceri, Jean Caron and Fred Caron (Boel), as well as her many nieces and nephews.
A grateful note of thanks to the loving staff at Bruyère Continuing Care, who made Kathleen’s last days as dignified and comfortable as possible.
No visitation per Kathleen’s request. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church Fallowfield, 15 Steeple Hill Road, Nepean, on January 18, 2020 at 1:00 pm. Reception to follow in Monsignor Paul Baxter Hall (adjacent to the Church). No flowers please. Donations to Bruyère Continuing Care or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
