Obituary for Linda Esme Williams (Scammells)

Williams, Linda Esme (nee Scammells)

With loving family by her side, Linda passed away peacefully on October 5, 2020. Linda was in her 97th year. She was predeceased by her husband Jack (2004), her sister Freda Holmes (2006) and a grandson Paul (1997). Left to mourn are her children: Larry (Trudy), Stephen (Patricia Lackie) and Linda (Brant Crawford). She will be sadly missed by her six grandchildren: Marc, Eric, Marie, Connor, Emma, and Evan and her seven great-grandchildren. She was immensely proud to have a large family and of their accomplishments. Linda came to Canada at four years of age with her family from Wales. Her small family settled on a farm in Cayuga, Ontario. From tough farm life to graduating from nursing school at Hamilton General Hospital in 1945 as a registered nurse, Linda was ready for what life threw at her. She was immensely proud of her 50-year nursing career. Linda was an avid golfer and a member of the Uplands/Hylands Golf Club where she served three times as Club Captain, and once as President of the Women’s League. She enjoyed golfing all over eastern Ontario and western Quebec and she loved to curl as well. As she aged, bridge became her passion, and she would never miss an opportunity to play. Linda lived at the Park Place Retirement Residence for the last nine years where she made new friends. Unfortunately, her eyesight diminished significantly over the years and she was unable to enjoy life as she had known it. Her mind remained active and she loved to reminisce about travels with Jack, nursing, and golf. She enjoyed a good joke and remembered them word-for-word. Linda will be dearly missed by her family and friends. There will be a private graveside service in Cumberland. Donations in Linda’s memory to the Salvation Army or the Ottawa Mission would be appreciated.
