Obituary for Margaret Fraser Finlayson (MacKenzie)

Margaret Fraser Finlayson (MacKenzie)
Margaret passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 9th, 2020, after a very short bout of the flu. Mom was just short of her 97th birthday and was granted her wish not to reach 100!  Although Margaret grew up in Saskatoon, her family remained closely tied to her mother’s Hay clan in Lachute, Quebec. A graduate of U of T in history, she enjoyed a career in the Canadian Foreign Service with postings to Copenhagen, Moscow and Paris before settling in Ottawa. She led a fun, active life filled with skiing, golf, tennis, bridge, cooking and socializing with her many groups of friends, which she continued despite her failing vision.  Margaret was predeceased in 2005 by her husband of 46 years,Donald Grant Finlayson – a larger-than-life character, with whom “life was never dull”.  Nana Marg leaves behind her three children, Anne, Heather and Grant, and her four grand-children, Zoe and Michaela Meil, and Finlay and Claire Hahn. Margaret was always interested in the lives of the young and old around her.  She was loved by friends and extended family, as witty, sharp and full of grace right through until the end.  She will be missed.  A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club, at 1405 Chemin D' Aylmer, Gatineau, Quebec, J9H 7L2, on Sunday Feb 16th 4-6 pm. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind are greatly appreciated.
