Obituary for Barbara Davidson

DAVIDSON: Mary Barbara
1928 - 2020

Peacefully at the Colonel By Retirement Residence, Ottawa ON, at the age of 91. Predeceased by her beloved husband, A. Grant Davidson, married at Southminster United Church, Ottawa. Loving mother of Thomas (Tracy) and James (Kirstin). Devoted Grammie of Alexander (Caitlin), Neill, Katherine, Iain and Grace. Predeceased by sister Meldrum Maxwell, brother Thomas Maxwell, sister Margaret Henderson (David) and brother-in-law Donald Davidson (Margaret). Cherished aunt to Judith, Elizabeth, Janet, Joan, Ruth, Jim, John and Rob.

Barbara graduated with a BA from Queens University, Kingston, and in 1952 completed her Master's degree at the University of Toronto (Plant Pathology and Mycology). Her career took her from Ottawa's Experimental Farm, where she was employed by the Federal Department of Agriculture, to the Forestry Pathology Lab in Maple, Ontario and finally to the Forest Biology Lab in Fredericton NB where she worked on wood-rotting fungal diseases of forest trees, including Dutch Elm Disease.

She was a devoted member of Southminster United Church in Old Ottawa South where her father (T. P. Maxwell) was a founding member. Barbara was very involved in the life and work of the Church. She was an integral part of the Mission and Service team and took on roles in the education of children and youth as a CGIT Leader and Ottawa Presbytery delegate.

Due to the current restrictions on gatherings there will be no visitation. A private family burial will take place. Friends and family will be invited to share in the celebration of Barbara's life at a later date. Barbara’s family wish to thank the staff at the Colonel By Retirement Residence, the volunteers who brought art and music to her life there and her private caregivers who lovingly supported her through many challenges over the past nine years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Southminster United Church would be appreciated.
