Obituary for Mary Murphy (Hickey)

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Mary Hickey Murphy left this life to return home on Saturday Feb. 1st 2020. She will be long and lovingly remembered.

Mary was born September 7th, 1932 to Florence and James Hickey of Clydebank Scotland. She survived the Clydebank Blitz during WWII, she fought through some early illnesses that made her a “force to be reckoned with”. She was a strong woman who faced adversity with determination and drive, always sure her guardian angel was by her side. She was beautiful, brave and resilient, and could laugh at situations others might cry at. She birthed 5 children in 7 years, and took great pride in their successes and accomplishments.

Mary was known for her keen intellect, perfect grammar, infectious laugh and storytelling abilities. Above all, she loved her family deeply. All who loved her will remember her for so many qualities like her witty British sense of humour, her love of any game that would challenge the mind, and her legendary “steak pie”.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, and her three siblings, Con Hickey, and Beatrice Wilson, and Jim Hickey of Clydebank Scotland.

Forever loved by Mary McHenry (Gerry), Sarnia, Karen Murphy and Gail Murphy both of Ottawa, Laura Dombroski (Steve) Franklin MA, and Peter Murphy (Myra) Kelowna BC. and 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road (at Aviation Parkway) on Friday, February 7, 2020 from 1pm until time of Celebration of life service in the Chapel at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
