Obituary for Mazal Ly (Sabag)

After a short, but hard-fought and courageous, battle with leukemia, Mazal Ly (Sabag) passed away surrounded by love on March 7, 2022. She was born July 22, 1962 in Ramleh, Israel. She moved to Ottawa, Canada in 1980, and she was fiercely proud of being both Israeli and Canadian throughout her life.

Mazal was a fighter to the end. Despite the obstacles she overcame throughout her life, Mazal was a shining example to her daughters of perseverance and strength with a beautiful heart. Everyone who met her could quickly see how hard-working and determined she was, always giving her best of whatever the task required. She was a loving and generous friend, using her amazing cooking and baking skills to express her love.

Mazal loved animals, kept an immaculate home and enjoyed gardening. She was immensely proud of her family. Most of all, she lived to spoil her grandchildren. Everything tasted better when their beloved Savta made it, and she was always showering them with gifts and attention. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Mazal is survived by her long-time spouse, Wilson Hum; and her daughters Oriana Ly-Mapes (Barton Mapes) and Jessica Ly. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Ethan, Joshua , Adam and Clara Mapes. Mazal also leaves behind her eleven older brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews, and their families. All of these she loved with all her heart.
