O’Neill, Michael Joseph
Peacefully, in Ottawa, at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, Saturday, January 29, 2022, age 87. Predeceased by his adoring wife Anne (Lazarovich). Loving father of Rosanna, Sharon and Patrick (Michelle). Cherished Grandpa of Conor and Matthew.
Born July 9, 1934 to Joachim and Cecilia (Powers) in Erinsville, Ontario. Michael went to Sudbury in 1952 for work, and married Anne in 1956. They were married for 56 years until her passing. He worked for INCO in a number of occupations, finally retiring after 42 years from the Plate Shop and the United Steelworkers Local 6500 in 1994. He made many life-long friends during his 52 years in Sudbury, and he was admired for his strength of character and work ethic. Michael and Anne moved to Kemptville in 2003 to be closer to his Grandsons, where they met many wonderful people in the community. Passionate about the outdoors, he was a better hunter than a fisherman. He was more fortunate than most, having spent at least 75 years enjoying the warm red, orange, and yellow tones cast by the beautiful autumn sun while pursuing big game. Skilled with his hands and an eye for beauty, he became a prolific carver of waterfowl during his retirement. Through his art, he was able to blend both form and function. The family would like to thank the staff at the QCH for their kindness and compassion during Michael’s final days and last Christmas as it meant so much to know how well he was cared for. Those wishing to do so may donate to the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation so to ensure that others may receive the same quality of care. A private ceremony will be held in the spring, following which Michael will be interred at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Kemptville beside his wife. He will also be spending more time at the O’Neill Homestead where the family has been present since 1848.
