Cohen, Mindy

Passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, May 30th. Beloved wife and best friend of Steven Sheinfeld for 37 years. Devoted and loving mother of Lindsay Sheinfeld (Dylan Malenfant) and Erin Sheinfeld. Cherished daughter of the late Louis (“Lou”) and Estelle Cohen. Dearest sister of Karen and Mark Cohen. Mindy will be deeply missed by her nieces, nephews, family and many dear friends. 

Mindy was a brilliant Teacher and Psycho-Educational Consultant in the Special Education and Student Services Department with the Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB). She was an active member of many Board committees and was particularly proud of her contributions to the writing team that created the “Let’s Read” intervention program. She will be remembered for her dedication to students, parents and educators, her in-depth and extensive psych reports, and the parodies of songs she created for numerous retirement celebrations.  

Mindy’s positive attitude, endless energy and kind spirit is embodied in each and every memory that we have of her. These are memories that we will cherish now that our lives are a little less bright without her light. Yet while Mindy is no longer here with us physically, we take solace in knowing that every time we pick up a paintbrush to do arts and crafts, every time we start to bop and dance to a song on the radio, and every time we reach out to help a person in need, Mindy is there cheering us on.

Services for Mindy will be private as per the Family’s wishes. 

Donations in Mindy’s memory may be made to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) or to the Ottawa Humane Society.
