Obituary for Mona Lamontagne
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Mona N. Lamontagne at the age of 61 years on Thursday April 01, 2021 at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. She was born February 13, 1960 in Moonbeam, Ontario. Mona leaves behind countless loving memories and smiles with all those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Mona was so devoted to her architectural work, loving family and friends; she will be dearly missed by all. Long will stand the legacy of her exceptional efforts through the many historical buildings and parks she worked on with the National Capital Commission (Commission de la Capitale Nationale) and Parks Canada (Parcs Canada). Mona had the kindest heart which she shared with everyone, and she brought so much light and joy to the lives of others that will continue on.
She now joins her loving parents Normand and Gaëtane (Tremblay) Lamontagne. May she Rest In Peace. Left in mourning is her partner Glenn Cowan, son Erich Chmiel (Lauren Cowley), brother Louis Lamontagne (Patricia Serrell), former spouse Richard Chmiel and nieces Jay Ashleigh & Samantha Lamontagne along with her many aunts and uncles.
We understand many would want to be present at the funeral service, and thus with current COVID-19 restrictions we would ask for your patience as we determine the safest course to allow for all to be able to attend. We will ensure that the location and time is shared with everyone who wishes to attend with sufficient notice. Thank you for your understanding.

C’est avec un profond regret que nous vous faisons part du décès inattendu de Mona N. Lamontagne à l’âge de 61 ans, le jeudi 1er avril 2021 à l’Hôpital Civic d’Ottawa. Elle est née le 13 février 1960 à Moonbeam, Ontario. À toutes les personnes qu’elle a croisées durant sa vie, Mona laisse de nombreux souvenirs imprégnés de sourires rayonnants d’affection. Elle était passionnée par son travail en architecture et aimait profondément sa famille et ses amis. Son absence sera ressentie avec beaucoup de tristesse! L’expertise et l’ardeur qu’elle a investies dans ses travaux sur plusieurs édifices et parcs historiques à la Commission de la capitale nationale et à Parcs Canada, demeureront un précieux héritage. La générosité et la douceur de Mona touchaient les personnes qu’elle rencontrait et leur apportaient une énergie et une joie de vivre! Elle continuera de nous inspirer et elle veillera sûrement sur nous.
Mona est allée rejoindre ses chers parents Normand et Gaëtane (Tremblay) Lamontagne. Qu’elle repose en paix. Elle laisse dans le deuil son partenaire Glenn Cowan, son fils Erich Chmiel (Lauren Cowley), son frère Louis Lamontagne (Patricia Serrell), son ancien époux Richard Chmiel, ses nièces Jay Ashleigh et Samantha Lamontagne ainsi que plusieurs tantes, oncles, cousines et cousins.
