June 22, 1931 - December 21, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Morris Weltman with his family peacefully by his side at the Carleton Lodge in Ottawa, on December 21st, 2021. Morris, in his 91st year, was the loving husband of Sandra Weltman for 58 years. Cherished father of Peter Weltman (Wendy Hillier) and Anna Weltman, both of Ottawa. Grandfather to Benjamin and Zoe. Dear son of the late Peter and Freyda Cogan Weltman, ‘baby’ brother of Tesse (late Abe Grosh) of Toronto, Shirley (Sam) Kleiman of Winnipeg, Harry (Sally) Weltman of Ottawa, and predeceased by his brother, Isadore Weltman of Ottawa. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. After spending some years living in Winnipeg and enjoying being around many beloved nieces and nephews, Morris moved back to Ottawa and worked with his family at their fruit store on the Bytown Market (downtown Ottawa). The fruit and vegetable business later blossomed into the beloved “Top Banana” chain of produce stores. The company expanded around the Ottawa-Gatineau region and the stores became popular landmarks in the community. Morris was a passionate and skilled golfer, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine while walking the courses at the Rideau View and Ottawa Hunt golf clubs.
A private graveside service will be held at Jewish Memorial Gardens, 2692 Bank Street, Ottawa on December 23, 2021 at 11am. A livestream of the service may be viewed on this website using the link provided below this notice.
