Obituary for Nalda Joan Wilson

Nalda Joan Wilson (nee Jewel), born October 1st, 1924 in Toronto, Ontario, passed away peacefully on December 1st, 2020 in Ottawa. Nalda married her sweetheart, Wing Commander Donald Cameron Wilson (d. 2007) after Donald’s return from the war. His continued service to the RCAF entailed a life on the road for Nalda and her young family, including daughters Leslie Sue (d. 2016), Dana and son Fraser Cameron. This included tenures at multiple RCAF bases across Canada and time spent in Dayton, Ohio. Eventually the Wilsons settled down and planted their roots in Ottawa.

The matriarch of the Wilson clan, Nalda lived for her family and together with Donald, built the family cottage on Lac Rhéaume in Quebec in 1966. The cottage would be a centrepiece for much of Nalda’s life, bringing together her growing family, including new daughter/sons-in-laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many close friends. As the demands of her family became less, Nalda found fulfillment as a teacher’s aid.

Nalda is survived by her son-in-law Robert MacDonald, daughter Dana (Robert St. Germain), son Fraser (Jane Wilson), grandchildren Brad Hamilton (Jessica Daniels), Kristen Holmes (Chris Holmes), Robert MacDonald Jr. (Janine MacDonald), Megan Wilson (Tyler Ross), Lauren Wilson, and great grandchildren Ryan and Vanessa Holmes, and Sloane and Cameron MacDonald.

We would like to express our great appreciation for the staff at the Osgoode Care Centre for their wonderful and heartfelt care of our beloved Mom and Grandma Nonie and for being beside her in her final moments, when we could not be.

A private service will be held for Nalda on Saturday, December 5, 2020 in Ottawa. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nalda’s name to the Osgoode Care Centre.
