Obituary for Peggy Mary Westbrook (MacKay)

Peggy Mary Westbrook (MacKay)
WESTBROOK, Peggy Mary

In her 98th year, Peggy (MacKay) Westbrook died May 29, 2020 of complications from a stroke. She was predeceased by her husband Eric, and her three sisters, Jessie, Margery, and Cathy. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Erica (Paul Hoffman) Victoria and son John (Sharon) Ottawa. Peggy was a wonderful Nana to Guy (Clare) Hoffman and Mark and David Westbrook; as well as to Trevor and Doug Martin and Jonathan Ferguson. She was very proud to have two adorable great granddaughters, Marrella and Fen. She was a special aunt to Margaret Calvert (Bill Norton) Australia, Al Calvert (Arlene) Ottawa and Jim Drainville (Marilyn) Nanaimo and was treasured by her extended family in Canada and Scotland.

Born to Scottish immigrants from the Hebrides who settled in Fort William, Peggy loved the wild windswept north Superior shore. She had a long teaching career that took her across Canada, ending as a kindergarten teacher in Ottawa. Peggy lived her strong Christian faith in quiet service to others. Her door was always open to refugee families and many others who needed a place to stay. She taught Sunday school and was a tireless volunteer. Her St. Paul's Presbyterian church family was an important source of support.

Unitarian House provided a loving home for Peggy for the past twelve years. Our family is deeply appreciative of the care she received there.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. If you wish to make a donation in Peggy’s name, please consider Jericho Road Ministries.
