Obituary for Peter George Nesbitt

It is with profound sadness that we announce Peter’s passing at the age of 76 on Saturday, December 7th, 2019. He was the dear husband of Heather, (nee McIntyre). Peter will be missed by his sister Elizabeth, his children Shelly (Daniel) and Kathryn (Giles) and will always remain in the hearts of his grandchildren Kayla, Devin and Brooke. He will be remembered by his sisters-in-law Ann (late Jim) and Sandra (Gord).

Peter spent his career with Met Life Head Office where he met his future bride and wife of 52 years, Heather. He used his many skills and talents at a variety of different jobs within the company. He joined as part of the mailroom and when he retired he was a member of the Senior Management team.

Peter’s lifelong passion for model trains provided him with more than just a hobby, but also an opportunity to develop friendships with like minded enthusiasts and he ran a small business that nurtured his creativity and love of all thing trains. He always had a book on the go and passed his love of reading on to his daughters and granddaughter who continue his page turning habits today. His “job” as a golf marshall allowed him to expand his enjoyment of the sport and to connect with even more friends and to pass this love on to his grandson. His love of photography blessed us all with pictures of memorable moments big and small through the years. He was a man who liked to figure out how things worked and he had so many talents and skills that he has passed on to his children and grandchildren that his spirit continues to live on. He had the beautiful gift of a long and enjoyable retirement that allowed him to spend time with family, friends and so many hobbies.

Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O’Connor) on Wednesday December 11 from 6-9pm and on Thursday December 12 from 10am until time of the service in the chapel at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ruddy-Shenkham Hospice or The Ottawa Heart Institute.
